Post by: gpasare on April 01, 2007, 10:58:00 pm
Hello all...I just purchased a 1986 c-10 pickup short bed 2 wheel drive ,with A 305...and 4 speed manual on the floor ...,low gear 1,2,3,and reverse. from original owner...My qestion is...Can this be switched with a 5 speed or 6.. Or am I just waisting my time ....I have not seen another one like it...I checked    ebay and cregs list..and local...The only one I saw is tow truck trucks...Is this special order...The trans looks very big underneath. It has a very strong low gear, the trucks jups when I let go the clutch and is pretty quick...Thanks guys Any info would appreciate, very much on what should I mod first,or live it stock...gab:rolleyes :eek

It is normal.  It is the SM465 trans.  You can switch it out, but what 5 or 6 speed are you talking about?

Using the Early Vette trans requires a different flywheel
keislerauto.com/ is putting together kits for conversions.
