Title: 86 suburban manual trans conversion
Post by: bofourfiffa on January 14, 2002, 10:51:00 pm
does anyone out there have any info on what kind of manual transmissions would fit in the burban and if there were any burbans that came with stock manual transmissions (there had to be at least some, right?). i have a crazy idea for a T56 six speed swap into my 86 sub....i dunno. thanks

i dont know what kind you want or whatever, but i had a 73 subby with a 4 spd manual, it was a 4x4.
i am very sure it was stock, it had a 350, 4spd, 205, 1/2 ton, 3:73 gears and a factory posi in the rear.
the thing i hate about standard in big trucks is, when you flex the body (going over curb) the linkage would pop out, i dunno, my 73 body wasnt the best but not to bad either. also my 74 blazer did this too, so if you can, go with a hydralic set up for clutch control ;o)

thats all i can tell ya

I have an '86 K2500 with a 350 engine and a manual transmission. It is a SM465 4-speed with a granny low of 6.59:1 (I think). I've never seen a 'Burb with a 6-speed, but I know that you could swap a NV4500 5-speed into a 'Burb. One resource is Advance Adapters, but I seem to remember reading something about using a Dodge version of the NV4500 rather than a GM. This is the same swap I hope to make in the coming years (2006 if I'm lucky).

In 87 GM made what the C-10 2wheel drive to R-10 and the K-10 became the V-10.

Cut em a little slack.  He more than likely found this site like I did, googling a problem then started poking around and asking questions.  That is how we learn.  For Newbies all posts are unread.
