Was looking through some old pics and found these pics of the toolbox I had in my old 87 R10 back in the day. I think these are from 2002 or so. About 4 years before I got my 78 I have now. My dad came up with this. I thought some of you guys might find this useful.
The way its constructed, is 3/4 mdf and 1/4 plywood. Cut the mdf to fit the box front and rear wall, put 1/4" slots in them every 4 inches or so (fit the slots to the plywood you use for the dividers, it should fit loose enough you can pull them out easily).
The 1/4" plywood dividers have a notch at the top front to clear the toolbox lid when open. You can move them around as you see fit, don't need to attach the mdf to the box as the dividers hold it all together. you can have as many or as few dividers as you want. you can also make as many or few slots in the mdf as you want. Totally customizable.
