Post by: BLAZE on November 07, 2003, 03:11:00 pm
I've got a prob. with my rear window. It wont work once it gets so cold out. Its gettin colder n colder here, but it works in the daytime, but on my way home after work, when its around 22 deg. out it jams. Can hear motor tryin, but it just wont go. Any suggestions?

You might try a synthetic lubricant on the motor bearings.  Sounds like something is binding up when it gets cold.

that is what it sounds like binding up. Definately hafta try that. thank you. Sounds better than my idea of putting sumthing around the elec. motor to keep warm. hahaha.:lol

:lol   I had considered that too.  The problem is that parts shrink with the cold, and not all parts shrink at the same rate.

While you are in there, you might want to check all the moving parts to see if there is a lot of wear, and a dab of grease won't hurt.  ;)

had similar problem with door motors a while back.  I took the motors out and pulled the motor out of the casing and cleaned both it and the casing with electrical contact cleaner. Let it dry, greased the window tracks and bearings and put everything back together. Worked like a charm 3 years later when I sold the vehicle

A budy of mine had the same problem. It turns out there is a cable that looks like a speedometer cable that gos from the motor to the window mechanism. The inside of the cable was full of water and when it got cold out the water would freeze and the window wouldnt work.

well after a lil investigating, i think its that cable. with cable hooked up its just a click, when i unhook cable and try window switch, the motor now works but cord will not turn cause its all freid out on the end.
