Title: TH350 to TH400 swap
Post by: SC Mud Puppy on April 03, 2002, 01:19:00 am
I've got a 79 1/2 ton 4x4 with a th350 trans that has gone bad.  I have a th400 from a 4x2.  What do I need to make the swap or will the tail shaft just unbolt and the trany bolt to the transfer case?  Full time transfer case.

Also anyone got a good source for gaskets and seals for transfer cases?

I believe that the lengths of the trannys are different, but thats not where your major troubles lie.  The problem is that the two trannys have different output shafts.  If you have a NP205 take a look at this page www.offroaddesign.com/NP205tech.htm.  This page will help you even if you dont have a NP205 because it gives info on the output shafts of the TH350 and TH400.  As far as the 2wd TH400, a voice in the back of my head says that it wouldn't work, but the voice has been known to be wrong before ;)

Thanks for the web site.  I don't think I have the 205 but the inputs would be the same and now I know what to look for.  Hope to drop all of it soon, and know for sure.
