The guy I bought my half-ton from put manual locking Warn hubs on to replace sticking factory auto hubs. Both sides are slinging grease on my rims. I pulled the driver side today and put a fat bead of RTV in between the o-ring and the face of the switch base. I'm gonna see if that does the trick. If it does I'll do the other side too. I'm guessing he used old o-rings and that's where the problem's coming from. Is RTV okay to use there or should I hunt down some o-rings? Would I have to order them directly from Warn or could I just shop around until I found some the right size? Never had any experience with manual hubs so this is all new to me, so any advice at all will be greatly appreciated.

The RTV should be ok, but a bit messier when you go to take them apart next time. I'd say If you can find the o-rings with ease, get them.

Well I'm one of those general construction guys so I've layed my fair share of caulk beads and the RTV turned out beautifully. No more grease has leaked since... I'm gonna run it a week and see what happens. If it doesn't work so well I'll take a short drive, I know where I can score some o-rings no problem. Only bad thing was I broke the head off one of those little allen screws that go into the switch cap. The whole head twisted off so the remaining stud didn't hinder me from taking the cap off and as soon as it was off I was able to twist the stud out by hand. To keep the grease from leaking out that stud's hole I filled it sparingly with RTV.

One thing you will want to check is that the wheel bearings aren't too tight. This creates heat that will make the grease more fluid and a little pressure that may push the grease out of the hub or wheel seal on the back side of the rotor.
