Title: Front locker
Post by: Java110 on June 06, 2002, 03:43:00 pm
I found a locker that I would like to put in the front of my truck, but i'm not sure if it will fit. It says it will fit into a 8.2" or an 8.5" 10 bolt. I know the rear is a 8.5" so I would assume the same for the front. But is it 10 bolt? Also it says for 28 spine axles. Anyone know what I have in the front? The truck is an 85 silverado 1/2 ton.
thanx

ok, I do have 8.5" 10 bolt front and rear. I just need to know what spline axles I have.

only way to know is to pull an axle and count the splines. if i remeber right it will be 28 like you said or 32 is the other. some guys i have talked to say you can just meausre the diameter of the shaft and figure out that way. either way you'd have to pull an axle

Most likely a 30 spline axle.

If the front axle is the one that came in the truck and has not been modified by aftermarket or later year axleshafts, you have 28 spline axleshafts.  The 30 spline axleshafts came in the 88-91 Blazers and Suburbans and can be swapped into earlier axles along with a 30 spline carrier for a tad more strength.
