Title: wanted to know what everyone thinks
Post by: tn89s10 on March 30, 2006, 01:31:00 am
I got a 79 swb 4X4 that I want to put on a 2" lift with 33" tires. It has a rebuilt factory 400 sbc, th350, np203 tcase, front dana 44, and 12 bolt rear.

1. when I lock the front hubs in and put the tcase in low or hi the rear wheels are the only wheels getting power. When in low loc or hi loc both front and rear wheels get power. Does this mean that it has the part time kit in the tcase?

2. I am planning on running a 2'' tuff country EZ Ride front lift spring with an ORD 2" shackle flip kit and stock rear springs. How much will a 33" tire rub when offroading?

3. should I use a tcase drop kit or will it be ok stock?

I have run 33x12.5s on a few half tons with no lift over the years and they only rub lightly when mild off roading. I think with a 2" lift you would have to really flex it to get them to rub. With a 2" lift you whouldnt need a drop for the transfer case.
It sounds like your case has been converted as well.

I didn't think that I needed the tcase drop but I wasn't sure. I going to replace the floors, rockers, cab corners, floor supports, inner rockers, fenders, and doors so I didn,t want to cut the new fenders. I want to find a step side bed when I get everything else done. The lift and tires are the first things that I wanted to do. I'll be replacing the brakes and steering components as well. I was going to go with a 4" lift but I dont like the way 33" tires look with that much lift. I will use the truck for mild trails but didnt want to mess up new fenders with to little lift. thanks for the in put.

Yeah, 2" will do fine.  I ran that on my 78' until a couple of weeks ago.  I ended up going with a 4" lift.  My 77' is going to get a 2" body lift, 6" suspension lift, and 35 or 36" tires.

I have a 1980 Custom Deluxe 4x4, with recently installed 33x12.5's. I had to trim the fenders when I first put them on even though my leaf springs were recently arched. I plan on replacing them anyways. The other week I ordered a 2" Add-a-Leaf from tuff country, and I installed it earlier today. I have noticed some more cleareance and the ride quality feels relatively the same. I didn't need to change anything, but I replaced the stock u-bolts anyways.
