Title: TH-350/NP208 Swap from TH-350/NP205
Post by: 79ChevyK20Guy on September 01, 2006, 02:53:00 am
About 2 years ago I desentigrated first gear in my TH-350 in my 1979 Chevy K20. I don't have the time to time to rebild one just yet and this is the nineth time I have put a transmission in this truck (they don't seem to hold up to 600HP). I recently purchesed a TH-350/208 Transfer combo out of a 1976 K5 Blazer. Here is my problem, I have a telescoping rear driveshaft. Changing the yoke out wouldn't solve anything because there would be nothing to keep it from coming out. How much difference in length would the rear shaft be from the Blazer? I am guessing quite a significant amount but I don't know I haven't messed with Blazers much. It would make my life alot simpler if I could use the NP208 instead of the NP205 because everything is stil mounted to the crossmember and ready to go. Is it possible and cost efficient to have the driveshaft lengthened or is there any way to keep the telescoping shaft from coming out besides welding it in place? I am planning on rebuilding the tranny in the truck and putting the NP205 back in as well just for the simple fact of lo and lo loc ranges. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as lengthening a shaft they would just make you a new one and reuse the yokes as long as they are still in good shape.
The original tranfer case in a 76 would have been a 203 ( full time hubs ) or 205 ( locking hubs ). 208s didn't come untill at the earliest late 1980, and they don't like high horse power.
