Title: 4x4 dually lift?
Post by: truck1974 on September 07, 2005, 04:26:00 pm
I just bought a 1979 K-30 Dually 3+3 4x4.  Truck is in pretty nice shape.

Does anyone know what the biggest size tire you can put on this truck would be?  The suspension is stock.

Also does anyone make a lift for a dually?  I was only looking at maybe a 4 inch lift.  Or would you have to get custom springs?  Any input from anyone will be appreciated.  Thanks, Matt.

ps, I also have a 76 chevy 3+3 dually 2wd.  I noticed the 4wd sits quitw a bit higher already.

Your tire size is pretty limited due to the dual wheels. 235's will fit on the back, but they will rub each other if you put too much weight in the bed. You really can't get away with anything bigger without doing something scandalous, like spacing the wheels slightly further apart.
Good luck finding a lift kit for it. I think you can use most of the parts from a 3/4T lift kit and fab any other parts. Surely someone on this board has already done it....

Any 1-ton lift kit for 73-87 will fit.  My brother bought and installed a Skyjacker 4" on his 86 1-ton crew cab dually.  It looks mean and can fit up to 33's on it, but remember you have duals on the rear so you will have to find a skinny - tall tire so the side walls will not rub each other between the duals.
