Title: 1981 1/2 ton 4x4 auto locking hubs to manual hub seal

I had auto locking hubs and converted to Warn manual locking hubs. There was originally a o-ring or seal between the housing and hub part that screwed on. I put on a new one I bought(did not come with new hubs) and when I tighten down the screws it just squishes and is all messed up looking. Do I even need this? I figured I needed it to keep water from getting in the housing but maybe the hub seals it good enough with out it. The new hubs have a very small o-ring on them in a different place.

The one that comes on the hub will seal it fine. On my off road rigs I have put a light bead of silicone on after they are installed for a little extra protection.
