Title: NP203 driveline "clunk"
Post by: Destro on October 25, 2006, 03:37:00 am
My truck really slams/clunks in gear.Expecially from reverse to drive. Should I have the transfer case rebuilt or do you think that the 4x2 conversion would take the slop out. Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Slip yoke on driveshaft.  All of mine except for one that had a brand new shaft and yoke did that.  Also, my dad put some new polyurethane mounts under the T-case, and that fixed his.

So your saying that the slip yoke fixed your "clunk"?
I never thought of the mounts. I might try that. I'd hate to part with all that $$ to have the case rebuilt.

Have someone shift it while you look. If the driveshaft rotates and then slams the pinion into the ring gear you have way too much backlash in the rear end and it will clunk for sure
