Title: backup lights

my backup lights stoped working, i figure its the switch but i don't know where to look for it. its an automatic.

You'll find it above your steering column under your dash.  It is a white oval type switch with a few wire going to it.  It screws (2) right to the top of the column about a foot from the firewall.  these things are cheap and easy to replace.  Make sure you follow the instructions--you have to place a drill bit in the slots during installation to keep it from moving.

You'll know it is bad if your engine will turn over while in D or L's or R. It isn't supposed to.

try your fuses first b4 getting a new switch!

Hey, mine just started being able to start in any position.  My lights still work though.

1976 scottsdale, you need a new "safety" switch.  see the reply above.
