Title: Question(s) about Tach's

I pulled a gauge cluster from a junked truck, and I'm unsure if it works. I didn't pay much for it anyways, and was wondering what things I need to do in order to get this to work in my 78 scottsdale that didn't come with factory Tach. Will the whole entire wiring harness have to be changed (the big plug that goes into the back of the gauges) or do I just plug it in the regular way, and hook the wires up to the distributor? Just curious, thanks for any answers  . I would just bolt on an aftermarket tach, but the factory ones are so much better looking to me.

On my '72 blazer I just ran a seperate set of wires too the dist. when I put in a factory tach cluster.  I'm not sure how it works on the later clusters.  

My '78 blazer has a factory tach cluster.  If you have any other questions I can check it out and let you know.

First, what year is the donor tach out of?

The wiring will have to be switched (re-pinned) on the cluster pin that plugs into the new harness.

The donor tach is out of a 78, and what do you mean re-pinned? More information would be appreciated :-)

"Pins" are the metal connectors on the harness.(yellow arrows).The location of the wires differ on different clusters.I've never moved these around before,but I believe this is what Chris is referring to.

You are correct Pugsy.  You just need to insert a small screwdriver or awl in the end and pull the wire out.

If the donor and your truck are the same, it should swap over, just check the wiring.
