In my 1976 3/4T Fleetside Longbox, my parking brake has started slipping very badly. When I first got the pickup about 1 year ago, it worked extremely well and I used it every day, but now if I push it down, it won't lock very tightly down and will pop itself right back up. If I hold it down the parking brake works, so the cable isn't loose, but the pedal sticking down and keeps popping back up, often at bad times (ie, when I'm not in the truck). Are the gears in my E-brake pedal assembly stripped out? Cause thats what it feels like.

Check the spring.

Clean and inspect the rear brakes. DO NOT adjust the cable. If the shoes look ok and all of the hardware make sure the shoes are sitting on the anchor pin. These use Duo-Servo brakes and the anchor pin is at the top. If everything looks good adjust them to have slight drag on the drums and then check the actuation of the parking brake.

Sounds like my 84, the rachet in the parking brake assembly was junk in mine. I swaped it out for used one. the cable, one bolt into the side of the inside of the cab back near the door, two nuts outside under the brake booster area. Edited by: Blazin at: 6/2/06 12:21 am
