Title: Fuel Gauge..
Post by: 1980cdeluxe on June 12, 2006, 08:30:00 pm
The fuel gauge in my 78 scottsdale has been funky since the day I bought it. Anything over half a tank, the gauge will read about 3 inchs over full, and anything under half a tank the gauge will do loops, only occasionally resting at how much gas I have but only for a second. I was wondering what would be the best thing to check? I'm not sure if its the sending unit or the gauge itself.

It's not a huge deal though, at least it keeps the GF amused - I was just curious.

It does loops, huh? That's pretty wild! It sure sounds like a bad sending unit, since it's trying to send a signal. My understanding is that a bad ground will drive the gauge past full, and no power will not register anything at all.
