Title: 1985 ext cab
Post by: 4X4MILKMAN on May 14, 2006, 12:11:00 am
Did GM make an extended cab pickup ing the 1980's? I found one for sale in northwest iowa and from the condition of the truck it doesnt look like a custom job unless it was done in the '80s.

a company in the 80's or 90's custom made the ext cabs. there's a post about them on here somewhere

GM didn't produce it, but a company did and it was covered by GM.

Really. Thanks for the input. I've only seen one once before and that was about ten years ago. They must not have made very many or they just were never in the midwest.

Now my next thought is, there is a sheet metal fabricator[ hotrods ] near me, would he be the one to go to to turn my '79 K10 reg cab into the ext.? And from the look of the one pictured in Arz, I'd probably need to find a suburban frame

I would use a LWB frame. The Burb frame is SHORTER than a LWB in wheelbase.

I owned one of these about 8 yrs ago. Did some research on it . Made in Arlington,Texas. 14 produced in 85. Pretty rare! I took mine apart to do a repaint and the inside of the cab was pretty scary looking! The rear of the cab floor was the leftover portion of the bed floor. looked like the inside of a conversion van. Lots of rough cuts and HORIBLE welds! It was a long box shortend in the front. I know where it is today, and from what I hear a guy could probably buy it? Definatly a uneek lookin truck!

ya know, that looks pretty good. would have made the side glass on the ext part bigger. one thing ford had on chevy back then is a factory ext cab.

sorry, havent been on for a while. the 85 is in winlock washington. looks like its been sitting for a while. the motor was tired when i had it ,so thats probably the reason for sitting. i was also told that the rear windows were used from some kind of aircraft.? when i had mine out, they looked pretty thick.
