I need to vent here. Every single thing I have gotten for my latest project has been a project in its own. Aftermarket garbage that is overpriced for the quality has got me frustrated to the point where I don't even know why I am bothering!
= Lets Make Crap The quality is horrible! I spent a lot of money on brushed aluminum and every piece fits poorly and a $100 piece has a gouge in it. The grill moldings were attrocious! The drip rail moldings were absolute crap! I am not kidding here, these parts would have fit better on a ford with some double sided tape.
Dashes Direct Dash pad = crap
Flimsy and horrible quality! scratches right out of the box, made of inconsistent rubber almost and just horrible looking. An OEM pad can be installed with your eyes closed and this floppy piece of junk almost got thrown right in the dumpster!
I could go on and on... I'm going to drink a beer or 6 and forget about all of these little annoyances. I'm just praying that $1200 seat at least bolts in nice!!!

I know what you mean. I had crappy door paint, bed rails, and other items that were a project in itself. I didnt have a problem with installing my seats out a 2000 single cab silverado. The only problem with that is the only way to mount them in a truck is to mount them stationary in turn you cant move them forward or backwards but i put them where i wanted and they were the best investment.
-
So I had a hard time relaxing without beer medication last night as I thought in disgust how bad some of this aftermarket stuff has been treating me and I decided that even though I got the DashDirect to fit ok I'm still not happy with it. So I called my buddy who works at a Chevy Dealer I used to work at and he'll have me one tomorrow for $250 OEM. I am going to return the DD dash that I paid $259.99 for plus a $7 dollar handling fee. So I get a nice OEM one cheaper. I don't know why I didn't go this route to begin with but a sigh of relief has come over me with this piece and the piece that has the gouge is being replaced at their expense.
-
i was about to say, you should file a claim with the shipping company or that the peice was damaged...
that's why i'd rather just make everything...of course i'm not going for the factory look though either
-
ChevyGuy..Not to get off topic and I don't want to steal this post but I'd like to know how you installed the 2000 seat in your pickup. I love those seats, they're so comfy. I tried to install a bench out of a '91 and failed miserably.

That is why I started selling what I have (AND why the Dashes Direct pieces are listed in the online catalog, I have 10 of them...) and stopped buying from . There are only certain pieces I would even thing about getting from them, and I still wouldn't for the exact reason you just stated.
I guess you missed by Dashes Direct post? Chris Lucas

If the pics are uploaded to the web, you just hit the image button on the left side of where you put you post test and paste the URL in that link.
If it isn't on the web, you need to upload it.

I know how you feel about the aftermarket junk....I wish there was some way to find out most of the OEM suppliers that made the parts for our trucks. I bought an OEM NOS dash off E Bay and even those don't fit as well...You have to paint these and the paint you use scratches off easily. Not too much you can do really when it comes to buying parts for an older vehicle.
-
I replied earlier but my post disappeared what happened?
Anyway I know they are paint to match but as long as you clean it really good and use good quality interior paint it will hold up good. Either way I'll be better off this way
-
I agree, the NOS dashes are way better......the paint I bought from says it permanently bonds to surface and will not discolor, flake etc.. Well, it didn't flake or discolor, but it sure as @#%$ scratches off when installing it. I bought a set of power door panels, regulators with motors and the wiring harness off E Bay from an 85 chevy truck. I paid an arm and a leg for this setup, but it was well worth it. Factory stuff is the only way to go if you can.

If you are painting the vinyl, SEM is the only stuff I would use. I has worked well with me.

SEM is great even for painting fabric. I am going to paint the headliner which is perfect but the wrong shade of blue so I'm just going to paint it black with SEM

Same here. Watched my Dad sink a lot of money into his and the parts that came out nice(the carpet... which WAS perfect), his buddy ran an angle grinder across it for him. I have bought one of those dash caps(never again), a lower instrument bezel(did not have the screw bosses or tab mounts for the upper bezel, and countless othe odds and ends. I ended up taking a dash out of a tan 1977 Bonanza because it had only 1 crack and no warpage. I will be using that one.

Working a Peterbuilt 375. Putting a new nose on as it got backed into by another dump truck. Ins. ( moron ) adjuster said " we will use aftermarket parts ". Well got the nose looks good few small blemishes no biggy. Grill shell kit $1,300 plus shipping. Original grill shell aluminum with a stainless screen, 7 peices make up the grill. Top, bottom, left, right side, screen, upper, & lower screen trim. After market shows up its only the top, bottom, & sides. Plus they are stainless $ 850 plus shipping. Call up the company, where are the other 3 peices? " Oh those are dealer items only ". O.K. order them up, $500. Finally get all the parts, the aftermarket peices don't even come close to fitting corectly. Get to thinking, call up Peterbuilt. How much is a complete grill shell kit? " Its not a kit it comes all assembled, all you do is huck rivet it onto the fiberglass nose. " Oh yeah and its $1,400. Needless to say I called the adjuster and told him he is an idiot, sent the aftermarket crap back with a note telling them there products sucks, and ordered the factory grill. Yeah, it's too bad you can't get too many quality after market parts anymore. Sad thing is, a lot of them say, meets or exceeds OEM specs.

Does anybody know the quality of the OER dashes from Classic Industries for the 73-78 trucks.

As for the Dash Direct covers, I've bought 2 of them. Neither one were worth the trouble, they didn't even look like they came off the same mold.
Any how, this is the reason why I just recovered my existing dash with soft vinyl. It was cost effective and not even very dificult to do. Theres a pic of mine on here,

Yeah, they are Dashes Direct pieces. They are at best replacement quality.

I would be glad to sell you one for $225 + $20 shipping. If you find it lower, I will match it... This is the ONLY company making these. If you know of another, I would like to talk to them.... Chris Lucas
