Hey Dale fan- according to the catalog, your VIN decodes as follows:
C- Chevy division
C- conventional cab
Z-350 diesel motor in 1980
1- half ton
4- pick up body type
A-Year (1980)
J- assembly plant- Janesville
132,838- sequence number of your truck...probably the 32,838 th truck produced that year. Hope this helps you out some.

Sounds like a plan to me. I used to work at a dealer (years ago) and i sold new and used cars. The fact that the dealer took it in on trade for only $500 tells me that they didnt "inflate" the price of the trade in just to sell the new car. This gives you a good starting point to bargain with. Do you work at the dealership? If so, go to the used car manager and talk to him. He might let you have it for around $1500 or so if you present it to him correctly. Ask him if he wants to make $1000 profit on the truck for doing nothing more than a little paperwork on it. If not, let it sit out on the lot for awhile and see if it sells. Most dealers like to move a vehicle as soon as possible. If it sets out there for a month, the dealership will start putting pressure on him to either sell it or send it to auction. In the mean time, see if you can get one of the mechanics (if you are not one yourself) to check out the truck thoroughly. This will give you even more of a bargaining edge if there are a few small things wrong with it that you can easily fix yourself. Good luck and let us know how it works out!!!
