Whats the easiest way to check to see what gears I have. I heard of jacking it up and rotating the tire and counting revolutions on the shaft. Is this the easiest way?

It may be easy, but is in no way very accurate.  Pulling the cover is one guaranteed method to find out.  Plus it forces you to replace the old oil in there.
