Is there a such thing as a nice looking green truck????
My delimna: My 79 big 10 pickup is in need of a paint job after 27 years. I am slowly converting this into a new truck, replaced the engine w/ a 383 stroker, brand new dual exhaust, new tranny, brand new ball joints, among other things. Now it is time to focus on the body. It has some rust issues along the common areas of these ole chevys, like the lower front fender and the like. I will replace these parts or repair them. I really don't wont to go through the hassle of repainting the interior metal or replacing the green dash, door panels, upholstery, etc...

I am going to repaint it green, i guess for reasons mentioned above, but haven't figured out a paint scheme yet....two tone? one solid color, etc...
Am I wise to keep the green theme going? I am thinking of taking out the center white and taking off the chrome trim. I don't think any other color will go with the green interior.
Anyone seen any nice looking green trucks??? What should i do or do I have some pipedream of keeping the green?
suggestions???

You can repaint the interior pieces (minus the cloth/carpet) with SEM paint to change the color.
Are you wanting to keep it green or do you think you need to keep it green?
I like 2 tones on the 73-80's Chris Lucas

i think that green looks awesome on ur truck. i think a little bit darker color green would look a bit nicer but thats just me..
if i were u id keep her green

Lime green, no trim, all black accessories = bad

I don't dislike green, it's just, on this truck....well, maybe it'll look nice once new paint is on it. The green from the factory was a metallic green. I like the idea of a darker green. I wish my interior was blue--i like blue trucks. Other interior colors can go with many different exterior colors, like tan or black interior can go w/ any other color. But green, man, that limits it to just a green exterior.
I thought about painting the interior....it's just that it will be a lot of work--removing everything that's on the dash and doors to paint the metal around it. Then painting the dash pad, door panels, etc... It is not out of the question though.
I don't know, just tossing up ideas and getting input.
One problem with the two tone redo, is that that chrome molding is impossible to put back on once removed--or I should say, it is impossible to remove w/out damaging it. Anyone have any luck with that?
That truck runs so sweeeeet now and w/ the new duals w/ no muffler (just a round converter) sounds so sweeeeeet. The exhaust exits in front of both rear wheels now.
Maybe if i lose the shell so that it won't look like an old man's truck, that may change the appearance drastically. That shell has always been on that truck. Now with a 91 sub, I really don't need the shell on this truck.

Gold and silver go with green. I have removed the trimp before on this vintage truck, and not ha da problem damaging it. Is it a Silverado or Custom Deluxe? If its a Custom Deluxe the interior is no biggy to remove. Most times the interior paint is in good shape too, just dirty. Wash it good with Super Clean strait and rinse, After dry scuff it with a scotch bright scuff pad, mask the gaugees and up under the dash so the wiring etc. isn't covered with over spray, and shoot
-
I would lose the shell for sure. Fiberglass lids are available if you're looking for dry hauls with some limitations. Two tones look nice on the older chevys except I never liked the tops being part of the two tone scheme. A darker green seems to look better and you could get by without changing the interior. New paint always makes a vast improvement in any case. Ya got a great truck with the stroker!
-
Keep the ideas coming....It is a Silverado. I just wish the trim was easy to work with. Can you buy new trim sets from or somewere??

i think it looks sweet as is...if they sold more cd decks in green, i was gonna paint my truck green with green dakotas...but more decks come in blue so that's the route i went
-
The darker it is the more the litle imperfections, dings etc. show up. Yeah silveraodo there is alot of interior parts, on the other hand not as much metal shows up so the paint would not have to be as perfect. Maybe find a silverado with a different colr interior? I had a 76 once that was Moss Green. It was goldish with a green tint is how I would explain it. I always had mixed feelings for the color. If it was buffed and waxed or new it would probably look good. By the time I got it the paint was pretty beat and it had some rust.

I have sucessfully removed the trim on these trucks also. Just take your time and it will be fine.
Here is a green one:

That green on the truck above looks great.I would definately loose the cap and maybe get a roll up tonneau in case I had a large item to throw in the back.
Notice how the nice rims add to the look of that truck also? hint hint
-
Thanks for the input fellas. Judging from these posts, perhaps I should just keep it the same color(s).
Chris, that solid dark green truck does look nice. That's got me thinking as well. Boy, that thing would look good with a moon viser over the windshield. hmmmm.....

Keep it two tone green/white! Everybody (including myself) seems to take two-tone trucks and makes them a single color. While these trucks look good either way, I truly believe the factory two tones are much netter looking now, and becoming more and more rare on the road these days.
Just my opinion.

And with good reason! The factory 2 tone is UGLY!
-
Factory two-tone adds class to the truck. I have one now with no two-tone, no accents, and no trim. Even for the trail rig that is will be that is too sparse. The two tone make the trucks look less bulky. They just look kind of boring with only one color. At least keep some wheel molding and a side trim from the 84'ish era.
-
The pendulum swings left, then right, then continues swinging....two tones, one solid color, two tones, etc...
I value each opinion and appreciate the replies. My head is spinning.
I do like the two tones, if just to keep it the classic look. However, the white on the roof of the cab--terrible! The chrome molding separating the colors--nightmare to work with!!
Decisions, decisions....

Two tone looks good but not the factory layout IMO. Below the trim line solid looks good. My old Blazer was two tone and if I can find pix I'll post them and it looked pretty cool. And the white roof is the ugliest thing ever!

i say definately leave itlike it looked from the factory
it looks cool,classic and orginal...
but i guess in the end just do wut u want- it doesnt mattter wut everybody else likes- ur the one driving it

Lose the camper shell and please don't put a visor on it....
Other than that, keep it 2 tone or that solid dark green. Toys are my game
-
I dunno about the camper shell but it would look great the same 2 tone. They have one running around here and its the same color combo and it looks sharp and the color of the interior is grey.
-
So Andy, what else can we help ya with? Ha!

Lose the shell and go for two tone green/white but make the top green and it well be very sharp

Ya.... what Curly said.....

Yeah, that just might be what I will do. But, it will be next spring before I do the body work/paint. It is not set in stone yet, I still kind of like the solid dark green. However, keeping it w/ atleast part of the classic 2 tone scheme would be nice (my wife likes the present scheme, and her opinion is very influential--if you know what i mean.
Again thanks to everyone's input. I am enjoying reading each entry--so many opinions!
And, as mentioned b4, that aluminum shell is as good as gone!

I say keep the classic look...never see any restored chevy/gmc trucks with the two tone and trim on them. Everyone takes the easy way out and goes one colour and removes all the trim. I find that the two colours and the trim make the truck look more ... can't think of the right word... upscale I guess.
-
WHY GO SOLID COLOR OR 2 TONE !!! WHY NOT GO 4 COLORS PLUS PIN STIPING. I DID.

I actually considered pinstriping and a unique scheme, but, unfortunately, I am not very creative and have never painted a vehicle more than two tones. All that fancy taping and pinstriping may not turn out very well w/ me doing it.
