Title: 87 bed
Post by: bicent truck on November 29, 2006, 06:15:00 pm
I want to buy and switch beds on my 76 fleetside. My question is concerning the new bed, which is an 87. I know it will fit, my question is will the holes line up the same for bolted to frame or do new ones need to be drilled. IF new ones need to be drilled does anyone know the cutoff date of when the beds didn't line up perfectly? Thank You. Rich

The holes line up fine, but your gas filler hose asembly is diferent. The tail light plug is square instead of round as well, you will need the pigtail from the 87 harness to splice onto yours.

It should be 73-80 vs 81-87 on the beds.  The front two are the ones you will have to move.

The only difference I have found is the older beds did not have the second two from the front back. 6 bolts instead of 8.

My bed came off a 76 fleetside and has 8 bolts, not sure about short bed, that might have the 6 you mentioned.

My '73 SWB fleet has 8 bolts holding it down.
