Title: V.I.N. decoding
Post by: clayton400 on December 03, 2006, 10:18:00 pm
Is there anyway to tell if a truck came from the factory as a Silverado, Scottsdale or Custom deluxe?

Not from the VIN.  If the RPO codes are still in the glovebox that would be the only way to confirm it.

If you do have those RPO codes, you can look that info up here...

is there another way of telling what ratio the truck has? i would like to figure it out without taking the cover off and counting teeth.

look at the 3 letter codes on the white sticker in the glove box...GU4=3.08, GU6=3.42, GT4=3.73, GT5=4.10.  That is assuming that the factory rear end is still in the truck.

well thats the problem all the RPO's in glove box are labeled with what they actually are and none of them mention anything about gearing.

If it isn't listed, it will be a 3.08 for 12bolt and 2.73 for 10bolts.  This is assuming it has never been replaced.
