Title: Power Window motor replacement 85 Silverado
Post by: JAG66 on December 28, 2006, 11:37:00 pm
What is the procedure for removing and replacing the power window motors in my 85 Silverado? They are currently not working and the windows are in the up position. I've removed the door panels, and only see an access hole in the inner door metal. Help.

The motors are bad, the switches are good. The RS motor works very very slowly. How do I remove/replace the motors?

you need to remove the regulator with the motor. make sure that you have the regulator secured via a bolt so that when you remove the motor you don't lose any of your digits. It's pretty easy to figure out just remove all of the bolts and minipulate the regulator out of the guides and the glass and don't forget what I said about removing the motor.

The windows are in the up (closed) position. How do I get the windows down to remove the glass, regulator, motor, vent window? I assume I need to remove the vent window also. I need detailed directions b/c I can't see how the door internals come out. My Haynes manual is not much help to me.

Well are you sure there is B+ and GND at the motor when you command it down? Before you go bezerk make sure it is reversing polarity. You can easily determine this with a test light. You do NOT need to remove the vent window but you will need to unbolt the regulator. There are 4 bolts securing it to the door.
