Nice ol' hoss. I'm impressed with how so many of these trucks still retain so much of their original equipment 30 years later... A testament to their durability. By the time I sold my '97 4x4 (a week before I bought my '73) I had replaced B.S. items such as heater controls, brake booster that managed to last 33 years on my old Cheyenne. It even tows better than my '97.
-
hey thats a nice lookin truck. when u gonna get them new tires and get your hubcaps done. your slackin cuz. hey i finally got me bed in primer
-
My gramps had a 75 like that, except he had a 454 and it was a yellowish white combo. I'd ditch that 350 and get the pickup 502 replacement engine......320HP and 515 Lbs/ft of torque.

-
Ah, get the 383 stroker engine. 335 hp/415 ft lbs torque...she'll bolt right in since a 383 stroker is a 350 block.

haha that would be unreal power
-
502 would be a better all around driver and puller....these numbers are with very low compression and dinky cam.

Wow, $17,500. Boy that is an expensive engine. And just think, you'd pay that much again in gas each month after installation of that big block.

SgtDel- is that the 383 u got? thats pretty sweet- i have always seriuosly thought bought getting one because they have a reasonable price and i understand some nice power 2
-
No I didn't get that one. I bought mine from an enginebuilder in Arizona. I paid about $2800 for mine w/out an exchange. She runs so sweeeeet!!! I had them put an RV cam in it to take advantage of lower rpms. It is the easiest swap ever due to it bolts right up to anything that your 350 bolted to, since it is a 350 block. All my ac,alt, pwrsteering, exh manifold, pulleys...every bracket, everything bolted right on w/ no modifications.
I shopped around for a couple of months and decided on D&J Machine and Performance. They had the best price, offered 4 bolt main, no core exchange, free shipping. If interested, email Darl at enginebuilder1@yahoo.com
He can quote ya some prices, and not just 383's.

hey thanks- ill kepp him in mind if i ever get one
right now its kinda outta the ? cuz im still a sophmore in highschool and im workin on buyin an s10 for better gas millege and a everyday driver
i like wut you have to say about him though- espically the free shipping because i cant image it being cheap shiping an engine from arzioan to indiana
-
No, actually...I was talking about this 502 engine, seems to be about the same price as the mouse.

I have nothing against the 383...they are good torque makers...I plan on building a 383 for my 91 silverado when the 350 gets tired for the fact of bolting everything on. The 383 just won't beat the 502 replacement truck engine when it comes to low end big block grunt. Besides, that 383 you listed above makes that torque at too high an RPM for pulling, but as far as performance.....that thing rocks.

The small block 454 is about 10500 its cheaper than that merlin and also lighter with great power numbers.
-
Yeah, the 454 small block would be good, but it's tuned for high RPM useage. I definitely wouldn't waste it in a heavy long bed pickup. If you want a power house that's light, check this out. 572 CI all aluminum big block producing 695 HP and 705Lbs/ft of torque and streetable. Weighs roughly 471 lbs and $13,500 this would be a bad boy for the street.

all these nice big engines would be awesome but heck i can barely afford to put gas in my 350
-
You know, if we are talking excellent engines, why not go to Rick Hendricks Racing in Charlotte and get a 358 cid that pushes 800 hp. Yeah, it needs to tach at 8000 rpms for full benefit, just get a real low rear, like a 6:00. Just don't drive it over 500 miles.
-
Hey, you brought it up......lol When you get older, your tastes and wants will change anyways.

Well ive been working on her again
since its winter and its inside- i pulled my engine and tranny and workin on cleanin them up and painting them/ undercoating my frame in the engine compartment
it all started out as replacing my hood latch srping and well one thing lead to another and well... u see the results

my goal is to finsih the engine compartment up this year and next year do the body- all ill need is patch panels for my cab corner, and a couple patches for my bed,
i found a choice hood at a junkyard for $50- which is a rare find here in indiana.its off a 79 and has that extra line on the front- but heck cant have everything and its way nicer than my orignal one soo. i got a nice straight rust free tailgate for $20 so im well on my way for that stuff 2.
i got my bell housing and tranny all clean up and painted this weekend and bolted back together- it looks nice and ill probly take a brake from degreasing and start to undercoat my frame now ill try to get more pics once i get further along
-
i havent updated you guys for a while on the progress of my 75
i got my engine and tranny all painted and put back in
she runs like a champ
i took of the bed and front clip to work on it as soon as i get some more money and im also gonna get a posi for it as soon as possible
i got a extra tire a couple nights ago and put it on and roasted it off tonight- i guess i got a little out of control and forgot about no bed being on it and rubber was every where - ive never had pieces of rubber on my air cleaner cover before :D but it sounded so bad running open headers ;D i had some pictures taken of it roasting a tire and will post them as soon as i can but hear are a couple of my engine in-

is there any way to make my pics bigger???
-
You would have to upload them to your picture site at a larger size. The forum will allow up to 600x480.
-
is there any way to make my pics bigger???
As Chris states, you have to change the size on your computer. What kind of software do you use for your pics. If you upload a large pic, it will be a large pic, if you upload a small pic, it will be a small pic. You don't want them large because it will take days to bring up the site---waiting a long time for the site to come up. Small pics are fine. Remember, some people still use the dial up services from way back in the 1900's.
DSL baby! ;D
