I bought this truck for $1200 with quite a few spare parts. It came with two extra TH-350's, Tires, and misc stuff that I sold and ended up paying about $350 for the truck. Here is a pic of how it started.

Couple tear down pics

Getting the frame all cleaned up and added disc brakes to the rear

Got the engine (New 383), New 700R4 trans, NP205 transfer case put in

The motor is a 383 (3.030" bore x 3.75" stroke)
Eagle Crank
Scat bushed rods
Hyperutectic pistons (9.5:1)
64 cc ported and polished 2.02, 1.90 heads
Comp cams Xtreme 4x4 cam ( Can't remember numbers off the top of my head)
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
Edelbrock 600 cfm carb
MSD 6-AL ignition
Got the cab back on and started some body work

The PO had the rockers and cab corners replaced, but they were done poorley with all the welds still showing. Edited by: aort07 at: 12/5/06 8:20 pm

Got some primer sprayed after finishing up the body work

Got some paint on the the cab and a new bed thats in a little better shape

Started putting the interior together
The dash is stuffed with Autometer Sport comp gauges. Speedo, Tach, Oil pressure, water temp, volts, fuel, and the one by the light switch is trans temp. It is just the stock plastic cover ground out to accept the new gauges. Here is a close up:

A couple of the engine bay with the fenders and hood installed

Here is a couple of how it sits now with the doors and windows installed

Thats where I am now. I just need some more money for wheels and tires, and to finish the interior. I have all the stuff to get the bed painted I just need to find the time to do it. I sold those old tires and wheels because they were bias ply and were starting to wear uneaven. The blue is just called medium blue. I just liked it better than any of the stock colors. When it is finished I plan on driving it every day. The frame was in pretty good shape so it was cleaned up, primed, undercoated, painted. I replaced the motor because the old one had some weird noises to it. When I took it apart I found the bearings were showing some brass and one of the connecting rods was bent so I just decided to build the 383. The truck has about a 2" lift on it now. I am only planning on running 33's or 35's so thats about all I need. If you have any questions just ask, I'll be happy to answer. Edited by: aort07 at: 12/5/06 8:29 pm

(Bows in Awe and Wonder... while drooling.) LOL. Sweet looking truck. I am starting to do the same with mine. It came with a crate engine in it. Two cracked heads and a bunch of old parts did not help it any. Going to 87-up heads and a lot of body work. Good luck. Be proud.
-
Thanks guys....If anyone wants anymore detail on anything I have a ton more pics I could explain if wanted.

Welcome from New Hampshire.
Looks good, I have spent on and off the last 2 years doing the same to my 86. Its almost done. Edited by: Blazin at: 12/6/06 7:37 am

Hat's off to you. That thing will be nice!
I love the 383's! I drive my truck with no destinations quite often just to enjoy the power--so much fun. SgtDel

I have gotten some work done but no time to post any pics. I have the bed pretty close to getting the first coat of primer sprayed. Here is a pic of that

I did a lot of interior work also. I intsalled a cd player, New 3.5" speakers for the front on the way, amp and 10" sub will be installed later and possibly some 6x9s. On the floor I put down heat shield, Sound deadener (basically tar paper), then the carpet.
Pic of the heat shield

Pic of the door panels

Pic of the CD player install

Pic of the carpet

Got the seat recovered and put in

Installed a Hurst Pro Matic 2 shifter

Thats where I am currently. Hoping to get the bed primered and blocked in the next week. Hopefully get the color sprayed within the next month. After that all I need is some new wheels and tires and it will be ready to drive. I'll try to keep updating as I go. I have more pictures of certain things if there is anything you want to see better, Just let me know.

Nice work!
Keep the pics coming.

Your truck is looking good. The old truck looks mean. Can't wait to see it finished.
-
It does look good. But i noticed something. The steering wheel looks like a older style wheel. If you want i got a steering wheel from a 1985 that has the smaller horn button in black but the crest is missing. If you want it you can have it for free just pay shipping.
thanks

-
Thanks for the offer on the wheel. It was out of the '74 I used the frame from. I am planning on buying a smaller grant wheel anyway since its not a tilt wheel. Thanks for the comments guys...keep them coming.
-
i'm not a fan of longbeds, or most lifted trucks, but your truck is CLEAN!
-
Got the bed primered this weekend.

I also built my box for my sub.

The box is 24x15x8x4 made out of 3/4" RFD Particle board covered in fiberglass. The sub is an Alpine Type R with a Rockford Fosgate 500.2. I hope I can get this bed blocked and painted by next weekend.
-
hey nice truck!
i was wondering where did you get those autometers, are they stock size? im having a hard time finding aftermarket gauges form my 78k10.
-
I got them from summit. They are 2 5/8" and 5" gauges. They fit in the stock bezel with some cutting and grinding.
-
ur trucks lookin great.
good work
-
Got some pictures of the sub and amp installed.

I need to prime the bed again and block it one last time before wet sanding. I am hoping to have it painted next weekend.
-
This weekend I finally got the bed painted. I need to wet sand and buff the bed and it will be done. I also installed my 6x9's. On to the pics...

-
Thanks for sharing your pics! Awesome work there. That looks like it's going to be fun to blast around in. With that stroker you'll be a pal to old Sgt. Dell for sure. Ha!

Did a lot of work this weekend. The truck is pretty close to being finished. I got the exhaust, wheels and tires, lights, grill etc on and I am happy with how it looks.

I just haven't got the tailgate buffed out yet, thats why it isn't installed. I need to fix some holes in the bed then spray the bedliner on. A few more chrome pieces and its ready to go.
-
Your truck looks great. I really like the color and the tire/wheel combo. Keep us posted.
-
Looks great nice work. Looks better then an 2007 Silverado.
-
Here are a few from the back with the tailgate installed.

Looks nice. What style mirrors are you putting on it?
-
Going to 87-up heads.
Whats the benefit of this swap?
-
I am guessing the 87-up heads he is refurring to are the newer style vortec heads.
-
Those autometer gauges in the dash bezel look awesome. How did you do those, did you just attach them straight to the bezel? Also I always wondered how you get a brand new Autometer speedo to work on an older pickup like that.

Well its been a while, but here are some pics of how it is now. I still need to install my mud flaps, nurf bars, and chrome strip.

-
truck looks awesome man. i noticed you installed a 700r4 with a np205. I'm thinking of doing the same install. I was wondering if you got the shorter tail shaft for the tranny instead of the spacer. Thanks again.
-
Great Job! You have a lot to be proud of here. The truck looks super clean and tastefully done. I dig the color too!
Your stereo installation is really similar to mine. Do you end up sacrificing leg room because the speaker boxes hang over the lip of that "shelf" a bit? My subwoofer hits the back of the seat but still thumps great!
Awesome work!
;D
-
Looks great- a lot like my 85 K20 I just did. One question? How come your mirror is so far forward on the door? Did you do that on purpose or was that a goof?
-
Thanks for the comments guys. I didn't have to sacrifice any leg room, the seat will go all the way back. The mirrors were a goof on purpose. We held it up on the drivers side and it looked the best there so without checking the other side we just put them both in the same spot. The vent window will block the passenger side mirror if its not turned in far enough but no big deal.
Here is a video of a burnout I did a couple weeks ago. I let off of it a few times just to see how low it would go without stopping.

Nice roasting....she sounds sweet! Got me fiending for a roasting myself.
-
Hey 76...
I did get a different output shaft. The transfercase I had was a male 10 spline so the tranny had a female 10 spline on the end that I bought from Advace Adapters. It was installed when the transmission was rebuilt so no big deal really.
-
Right on. Sounds easy enough. Truck looks great man. The only other thing i was wonderin about is do you think my stock tranny crossmember from my sm465 would work for a 700r4? Or would I have to get one from the 700r4 truck? Thanks again.
-
Not sure what the crossmemeber from a 465 looks like but all I had to do was move mine back since the 700 is longer than the 350 that was in it.
