Title: Catalytic converter?
Post by: got2haul on March 09, 2007, 12:24:00 pm
My 1980 1/2 ton stepside does not have a catalytic coverter on it.  Were they required on 1/2 tons by this model year?

As far as i know they were on all 1980 trucks 6 cyl and v8s.My 1980 had the charcoal canister in the engine compartment when we bought it but it wasnt hooked up to anything and we had headers and dual on it.

My dad's 76 had one.  It didn't last long on it though, many years ago.

Yes, yours had one.

The best way to tell if your truck came factory equipped with a catalytic converter is to look on the Vehicle Emissions Control Information (VECI) Label. If the truck came with Cat's it will say catalyst. My 1980 was a non-catalyst

My guess is your 80 1/2T is a Heavy Half ( 4th position in the VIN is 4)
