Title: just a question about motors
Post by: magnum59 on April 22, 2007, 02:50:57 pm
We will be removing a 4.3 from a 1985 chevy c10 custom pickup and would  really like to up grade to a 305- my question is -is this possible with out changing everything in the drivetrain? The 4.3 is tost any way and we are looking at a crate  305 for about the same price as the 4.3.
 thanks
magnum

You'll have to change a few things...but nothing drivetrain related. I have a 305 for sale if you are anywhere local....

Bigger radiator, clutch if its a standard, exhaust manifolds, etc.

Distributor, intake, exhaust manifolds are the main things if you are doing a crate motor.  I am sure you would have to move the mounts on the frame as well.  You might have to have a fan shroud to go with the larger radiator that blazin mentioned.

If you don't have A/C ,the small rad may be sufficient. Had a small rad with a 305 and it kept cool OK.That was in an 88.
