I have an odd problem...I have trouble starting my truck AFTER it's warmed up. Yesterday I took her on a long ass ride 160ish miles round trip. I stopped after about 40 miles to pick up a few things before getting back on the road and had trouble starting her back up. This isn't the first time it's happened I used to have the same issue back when my truck was stalling at idle after it was warmed up. It was really hard to start back up and I can only describe the sound it was making as it was trying to start as strange. It will always start again but I have to pump the gas pedal quite a bit and the sound it makes is just weird. Any ideas?

You really have to elaborate. By starting hard do you mean the starter turns slow? as in the engine cranks slow? Do you mean the starter cranks the engine at normal speed but it just won't start right away? explain what noise you hear.

It seems to crank slower then normal...its really hard to explain the noise, but I guess the easiest way to describe it is slower then normal.

My first guess, for what it's worth, is the starter is getting HOT! Do you have headers or is your stock exhaust really close to your starter? Exhaust work done lately? If no, then starter could need replacing.
You say it starts fine when cold? Then when hot, it turns slowly? Well, it is either what I just mentioned or you have your battery cables getting very warm--i'd check all connections. Turning slowly is usually a starter, battery or cable connections--when hot or cold.

I agree with SGT Del - if you can do a starter current draw test or just replace the starter. Make sure your ignition timing is set correctly

Thx for the info...I've almost got everything working good now (only took me a year). Once I fix this everything works (except the gas gage doh). ::)
