Title: New Face new Project!
Post by: 10k plus on May 10, 2007, 11:24:29 am
Hey all my name is Mike from Calgary Alberta Canada. I have a 1976 chev 3/4 ton 2wd that is my new project. Now i don't really need the 3/4 ton axles ect, so here is my question (May be sacralige (sp?)) what would i need to swap to a 1/2 ton axle and front end? I heard a roumor that it is the same frame as a 1/2 ton just with beffier suspension and axle(s). any help would be awesome thanks - Mike

what are you trying to eliminate by going to 1/2T running gear?  As in why are you wanting to change.

A lot of 1/2T (HD and Heavy Halfs) utilized the same rear springs as a 3/4T just not the axle.
The front are esentially the same short of the HD bushings in the control arms.  I "think" the tierod ends are different also.

Can it be done, yes.  simple solution is replace the rear axle and the front suspension from control arms out...

well I got the truck for a good price but the rear has to come out anyways sooo since its a 2wd its gotta get lowered and seeing a 8 lug slammed ride will look kinda goofy. Besides i can use the 14 bolt in my future jeep. Thanks
