Post by: Mr79C10 on May 28, 2007, 06:19:31 am
Need a little advise on this repair. The bed is in really good shape. But the rails here.  What would be the best way to repair this. The pass. side isnt this bad.
Thank you.

If that's your only rust you lucked out. I would cut it out and weld in a new piece of sheetmetal. A plasma cutter would make that a nice easy job

A wizzer wheel cut off tool would cut that out nice too. Then just weld a new piece in. Grind the weld almost smooth and fill with some short strand fiberglass, & then some filler. Prime with self etching, & high build urethane primer.

Any local salvage yards nearby?I say find a truck and cut that entire section out and repalce it.Find a J/Y truck and cut the needed section out(both sides) and weld them in, it be alot easier to cut it out completly then just patch areas up and it wont look like a washboard when you are done. Just my .02

thanks

I would cut off halfway up the vertical all the way down and stitch weld in an angle pce of bent sheet metal and fill.
