New to this board. Anyway, great info in here. I read all the posts about AC and had most of my questions answered before I even joined. But I have some more questions. I was given an unfinished project: a 74 C10 Stepside 2WD. Pearl white with ghost flames. It was a theft recovery and had almost everything missing. I picked up a 75 3/4 ton long bed and am taking most of the stuff I need from it to build the 74 Stepside. Here are my questions.
-
1) the 75 has some type of switch on the gas pedal mount, what's it for? Do I need it on the 74?
2) is there something on the carb'd trucks that boost/offset the rpm when the AC is on? My new engine has an Edelbrock carb on it
3) how much shorter is a Stepside driveshaft from the longbed?
4) the 75 had AC and next to the AC box in the engine compartment was a black canister. Is this the "reserve vacuum" canister?
5) ???
Thanks in advance. I'll have more questions as I get to building. I've already swapped out the power steering and power brakes onto the 74 from the 75.

I can answer the switch on the gas pedal is probably the kickdown for passing gear for a th400 trans.
they had a solinoid that raised the rpms when the a/c is on.
can't answer third question sorry
I don't remember what that canister does.

Yes the switch on the gas pedal is for the detent solenoid used on TH400 transmissions
There are several ways you can boost idle to compensate for engine load - look for an actuator on an old q-jet and just wire it in parallel with the ac pressure switch
A short wheel base truck will have a shorter driveshaft but the trans/transfer case set up will determine the length.
That black ball is your vacuum reserve canister
