Title: Military truck titles
Post by: Lon on July 04, 2007, 10:37:41 am
A coworker has some fulllsize Blazers and I think I can buy one real cheap. The problem is that they are former military vehicles. He told me that he bought them as parts vehicles and they can not be retitled.

Is there anyway around this? I have done some searching but I havent come up with any answers. I was thinking of buying a scrapped Chevy truck and using its VIN and title on the Blazer I know this is probably illegal so that isnt an option.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

You migth be able to register it as a 2007 with a state issued VIN#. But if it were me I would swap the VIN off a scrapped out Blazer.

I did not know I could get a state VIN#, I will check into that option. I do know that if I become a liscensed automobile manufacter I can stamp my own VINs. That may be a bit far fetched just to get a cheap Blazer, that I will end up converting to 2WD.

Well in N.H. they have what they call composite VIN #. They are for home built rigs like a if you were to combine two different rigs type deal. We also have salvage titles / VIN #s. They are issued to a rig that has been rebuilt after a total loss type deal.

The reason I was told for no title on militay trucks is because they never had one issued to begin with.Try checking with local DMV,they might be able to issue one or at least tell what your options are.

In Indiana you can go to small claims court and have the Judge force the DMV to issue a title for the vehicle with the numbers that are on the truck. Make sure you have paperwork for the vehicle. Like a bill of sale with VIN on it. And have a police check done. It costs $37.00 here.

How many are some, and how little is cheap?  I would call the local DMV tell them what you have and see what they say.  If they were bought as parts though, well the bill of sale isn't going to help.

Most DMV's will do a title search or certificate of origin for $25 bucks

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'm still doing research, this may be a lost cause.

Capt.
I think he has 4 Blazers, he has not specified a price, all he said was "cheap". I dont see him often since he is based in another county. Next time I see him I will bring the subject up, I really want a Blazer to replace my copier service Astro with.
