Title: rust by windshield

how do i fix rust that runs along my winshield at the bottom?  Its just a small spot

My thought is depending on the size either weld it up, or make a small metal patch to fill the hole (after removing the rust)

i have the same exact problem. i have talked to a few old timers and they said that they would fill it with fiberglass. A very thick fiberglass. I'm actually still trying to find out different ideas as well. How bad is yours? mine goes all the way back to the windsheild at one point

I wouldn't do that, it only masks the problem for a little while as the rust you didn't remove keeps growing.

I had this problem with my 1st cab.The entire underside of the channel was so rotted it wasnt funny, i had to cut it all out and weld in new metal.When i was done i used  the stuff made by  USC called  ALL METAL. Its stronger then fiberglass and wont shrink swell or crack.It held up for 12 years until i cut up the cab and the section was in good condition still and didnt blister up or anything.I notice when the windshield is replaced they sometimes seal up the drain holes in the corners and thats why the channel rots out the water sits there and eats away the metal.

mines not horrible it's mostly right behind the top of the passengers fender. it's not rotted all the way through tho

If its just surface rust i say grind it down and if there are pits use a small hand held sandblaster to clean the rest and you should be ok.

Sand blast it then you will have a few holes to weld up. grind the welds, re sandblast it, finish it off with some fiberglass body filler, prime it with self etching primer, and high build urethane primer. Sand, and paint it.

Yeah, mines rotted all the way through. There is a huge gaping hole there. It goes back to the windshield but i dont want to take the windsheild out
