Title: new to my truck and new to the forums need help
Post by: atxcobra on July 12, 2007, 07:44:47 pm
hey yall i just purchased a 81 stepside with a 400 small block as far as i can tell it has LT headers, holly street dominator intake, some sort of carter racing carb, taylor racing wires, flowmasters, and i would say a mild cam of some sort. could anyone tell how much power i should be making with these mods plus the motor i know its impossible but i just want an idea because i have no idea. also the odometer does not work so does anyone know if there is some sort of easy fix, i just want to be able to keep a track of my mpg. the speedometer does not work i dont think the previous owners who installed the motor ever hooked it up can anyone help me with any of this.

If you want a guesstimate, it would say 180hp.  You would need more information for a better guess.

As for the speedo, is the cable hooked up to the speedo, how about the cable to the trans?

Welcome to the board from New Hampshire. I agree see if it is hooked up at both ends first off.

ill check out the cables but i would have thought the hp would be higher o well. what about tq i mean i have a cobra that puts down 315hp to the wheels and it doesnt leave burnouts as long as this dang truck its awesome! but i guess it has more to do with the fact truck weight nothing in the back and the one wheel spin.

You are correct. My buddies think my truck has some wicked tourque numbers because when I light the one tire fire, it burns really well.

No weight in the rear and an open differential will do that.
