Title: Transmission shifting help

'75 C10 (2wd) 350 w/ 4speed manual

I need better shifts. right now it is like a 3 step process. push out of gear, bring to next gear, push into next gear.

I want smother shifts, quicker shifts

is there anything I can do to fix this without rebuilding it. I would prefer not to have to drop the tranny, it is my daily driver.

Nope, there is nothing that I know of that you can do to improve the shifting charateristics of that tranny.  The SM465 is by nature a heavier work transmission and was not designed to shift fast.  Maybe some here has a trick that you can try, but as far as i know you will just have to live with it.
