Hello to all,
I'm new to the block, I've been reading for a while, you guys seem to have a good knowledge of what your talking about, I've found some very usefull stuff on this site.
I have a project that I'm wanting to start on shortly, I've acquired some trucks and now I'm trying to decide which way to go. With what I have accumulated or keep searching for more parts. I have a 91 C3500 crew cab with a 5.7, unknown trans. looks different than pics I've seen on websites, GM 14 bolt FF rear. I also have a 84' K10 longbed, 5.0, NP208, 700R4, 10 bolts front and rear. I also have a th350 and a NP203 with a conversion kit. I wanting to build a 4x4 shortbed crewcab.
Questions...
Will the big 14bolt rear end work in a 4x4? looks like spring perches are narrower.
Using the 10 bolt front axle can I convert to 8 lug to match rear and ratios?
Should I use the 700R4/NP208 or TH350/NP203?
It looks like the frames are the same width, will the 1/2 stuff fit on the 3500frame?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Some might think this is cobbling a truck together, I'm just looking to build a toy to play with and have some fun in the process of building it!
Thanks again..
Mike

Take a picture of your pan and see if you have the 4L80E. If so that's a keeper.

Ok I think I got the picture thing figured out, here is the trans pan. It's not a real good picture, hard to take the way the truck is sitting. I kind of thought it might be a 4L80. If it is one, it is set up for 2wd.
Can it be adapted to fit the NP208? Thanks for your help and advice.

here is a pic of the crew cab project truck.

Spring perches are the same on all 73 - 87 trucks 1/2 through 1 ton. The cab and chassis however had a narrower rear housing.

4L80e = business

thanks ville
what would it take to make it fit the NP208

14bff is a great axle for a 4x4. That is what is in the short-bed crew cab I am building.
