Title: 700r4 vs. 4l60(e)?

Got a question about the interchangeability between 700r4 and 4l60.My buddy has a 93 burb 4x4 with a bad trans(4l60) and can get his hands on an 87 4x4 burb(700r4),but he isn't sure if his 4l60 is electronic or not.Is there any markings to help I.D. this ? I know the early 4l60's are the same as 700r4,but do not know when they started the 4l60e.

I am currently going through a tailshaft replacement on 2 700r4 speed sensor equipped transmissions, converting them to cable driven. The guy i'm getting my stuff from (Dacco trans. parts) said that his interchangibility chart shows that 82-95 700r4s/4L60's are the same. The sad part is that i've also been told that if it's marked with an "e" on the end, that means electronically controlled (the torque converter lock-up, speed sensor, etc.)

The differences in the 4L60E vs 4L60 (700R4) is that the 4L60E all shifting is controlled by the ECM.
1993 was the year they started producing the 4L60E, it can be identified by the electrical connector on the passenger side behind the 2-4 servo (big round thing on the side)
