It has happed twice now took the old 1974 3/4 ton auto out and shut it off for not longer than a half an hour and went to start it and nothing no clicking I mean nothing. Lucky my Dad was with me the first time and messed the neutral safety switch and she fired right up, that was like a year ago, but it did it again yestereday I came home from cutting grass and I unloaded my lawn tractor went to back it in it's spot and nothing, I messed around with what I thought was the neutral safety switch but the finally it start working again. i am going to replace that switch, you guys go any tips or anything I should be aware of before I do it. I don't want to screw it up and make things worse. Thanks.

1st make sure your shift linkage is good and tight. After that pop it in Reverse -key on engine off with the brake on (not on a hill) and adjust the switch until the reverse lights come on. Move the switch one click at a time until they go out. Set the switch in the middle of when the reverse lights came on and went off. Then see if it starts in P and N and make sure it doesn't start in any other gear,

In addition to the neutral switch it would be a good idea to check/replace the ignition switch mounted on the steering column. I have had several vehicles through the years with this sort of untimely mannerism.
