Post by: 83HighSierra on September 09, 2007, 06:05:53 pm
This weekend i was going to fix my instrument lights because they are not coming on. So i replaced the headlamp switch and they still didnt work. so i decided to take out the guages to see if i could figure what was wrong. Well while i was taking out the speedo gauge they flickered on. The video link below should show yall what happens. Does anyone know what the problem is??

Seems like a short to me. The wire only makes contact (ground or power) when the cable pulls against it. I would say check all connections near the speedo.

well this is my first project so i dont really know what to look for. Also how do you disconect teh speedo from the cable its connected to so that you can get the guage out?

It's not a short it's an open. An open circuit related to you moving the gauges in and out is either bad pin tension at the connection or a faulty printed circuit. Remove the entire gauge assembly. There is a spring clip at the back of the speedo cable, simply press down and pull tha gauges toward you.

i took the gauge assembly out and found out that the rectangular connector wasnt fully pushed in and whenever i pulled on the speedo teh connecting wire pressed it in. Thank you guys for the help
