I didn't want to hijack any other primer threads so I started this new one:
What kind of primer would I use just to protect from rust while I'm doing my body work? I'll be doing it a little at a time as funds permit and running the truck in primer until I have it all done. Some of the primer will be over bare metal, some over filler and some over old paint that has been sanded for better adhesion. I'm new at paint and body work and I have a couple of cheap sprayers to get started with.

I would paint it with a 2 part epoxy primer.

Yes a 2 part primer is best for long term. I can set you up with some when you get the door, no charge...

I would use a self etching primer on the bare metal, High build urethane over the filler, and epoxy primer over both of them and the old sanded paint.

Thanks Zieg. I'll probably take you up on that the next time that I'm up there. Hopefully those skeeters won't be as hungry!
