I have a 87 K-10 with a 350 that I'm wanting to put true dual exhaust on it, now that it's emission exempt. Right now I have the cat with a Flowmaster that splits into duals. Muffler shops won't touch it because of the converter. I was thinking of getting headers and ordering a dual exhaust kit from . Has anyone ever bought one of these kits, and if so, how do they fit?
-
Just find yourself a good exhaust shop who will do it and just tell the guy cash no receipt. Bolt on's suck big time! Even stop in at a Meineke and talk to a talk and ask him if he can do it on the side.
-
What is it like talking to a talk? :p
-
I just got mine done. I didnt have a cat to start off with. They didnt say anything when I bought it in. I got true duals also. You will be happy with a true dual set up.
-
talk tech close enough :P
-
Of course you didnt have one 197 nor did they say anything because yours is a '73 which is before they started putting them on the trucks. I think anything after 1978(?) is required to have a cat. Jimmy: do you know anyone thats skilled at welding? Because if so you could buy a kit and have him install it.

i have an 87 witha 350 and i had mineke put on a true dual 2 1/4" with two true flow cats and two true flow mufflers. ran me about 800 bucks. wasnt too bad and its sounds great with the 3in tips. they had no problem doing mine. though im thinking about doing headers and putting on two glasspacks

I think it was after 1977 cause my 77 has one and it says in the manual(still in good shape too) about how vehichles are required to have cats now blah blah blah.
-
Haha i wasn't sure, i knew it was somewhere around there.
-
Ville is right. Just look around . You can find someone with a bender and stock and pay them cash. I have a guy in my area . He'll do anything he dont care. Cash no way to track it. That works for me cause 9 out of 10 I'm running something that breaks the rules .
I actually found this guy years ago , he said he wouldnt do it so I asked.... Do you know anyone that will do it for cash. That changed the whole story. Now if I need something I go to him.

1975 what when they started with Cats/Unleaded Fuel.
-
well i think '75 was for cars and then '77-'78 was for trucks (this is what my friend said whos a mechanic)
-
That wasn't a guess, it was 1975 for trucks under 6001 GVW, which is ALL 1/2T's
-
well you know more then i do so it's all good :P
-
Yup 75 was the 1styear they added the ole pancake pellet converter
-
Alrighty so now that we have that settled, I wonder if JImmy38fan figured out what he's going to do yet.
-
not to steal this post but my 75 didnt have a cat on
-
was the exhaust stock on it? if so maybe they implemented it mid-year.
-
I believe in 1975 that if your truck was over a certain gross weight then cats were exempt. I have a half-ton with the towing pkg 6500gvw -- cats were not required.
-
Well as previously stated, cats were for vehicles under 6100gvw. And because of that, then I would assume 75C20 doesn't have one because it's a 3/4 ton. See, learning is a good thing! :P
