Title: 76 Chevy Fuel Gauge always reads past full
Post by: txtj79 on October 07, 2007, 08:50:47 pm
Hey Guys,

I have a 76 chevy silverado 1/2 ton 350 2wd auto.  For some reason, the fuel gauge always reads way beyonf "FULL"  And the gauge doesn't move, no matter how much gas is in the tank.  IT does not have dual tanks and is pretty much bone stock.  Any ideas what might be causing the problem?  It just started happening a few weeks ago.  Thanks.

pull the wire off of the sending unit at the tank and ground it with the key on and see if it moves/

i had the same prob on a 75 c10 2wd single tank blah blah blah i did the wire thing most like you tried already and nothin even if i tried to ground it to the frame. my problem was the sending whire broke due to the heat of the motor bay, it was right before it went into the safty tube thing by the firewall on the passenger side. it should be a pink wire, oh and mine was like that for a year before i found it so look hard and don,t be afraid to give the wire a gental tug here and there to see if it lets go or is broken.
good luck  ;D

I have a 1974 Chevy Cheyenne Stepside and I'm having the same problem right now. I have dual Gas Tanks and when i would switch to the left tank it would go Way Beyond Full. the right side does seem to be working well. just the other day i tried switching to the left tank and now it doesn't move at all. maybe its fully empty? i dont know what to do...any help?
