The RPO code I have for my trans says "MX0 - 4-SPD. AUTO. TRANS." it may have been at one time, right now it's a TH350 in there. But I was trying to figure out which 4spd trans it would be, but I tried to look it up and found nothing. Any help?

I found something that says it is a TH700, but if it had a 700R4 why would someone replce it with a TH350? is the TH350 better for offroad or something??

a bone stock 700r4 is kinda weak, esp. pre..88? i think.. they can easily be built to withstand as much or more than a 350, but if they had a th350 sitting around, its a fairly easy swap. AFAIK, the 700r4 was the only 4 spd auto trans available then.

yeah, that's pretty much what I came across was that it was the only 4spd from back then. However I'm thinking about what trans I should put in there, I'm thinking a TH400c those are the ones with the lockup in 3rd gear right? That would be nice for driving on the highway...

Build another 700r4. OD w/ lockup is better than just lockup ;D

What would be the strongest trans I could build for this truck, I've heard of an R4 200 trans that was actually stronger than the 700R4....

Just a thought.
You might want to do a search on older topics as we have gone over this quite a few times. once just last week or two. No sense in everyone adding their two cents when we all already have! Then if you have questions we will be starting fresh, & we can build on the knowledge allready posted in here.
Personally I would build another 700R4 if you plan on staying with an auto trans., & driving it on the road as well as wheeling it.

Like Blazin said, its all covered in recent posts. Theres no need for a th400 unless you're stepping up to a built big block and plan on REALLY thrashing it.
Again, I'd say build a 700r4..for $250-$350 for the parts to make one stronger, or just buy a raptor 3 700r4 if you don't want to dive into an auto trans yourself, you can have an OD transmission that will handle any practical streetable small block (up to 400 hp if you want a number), and you can thrash it while wheeling without worry.
