i wished my kid would have taken the initiative to make things better, he'd rather make them worse. i got him a real nice '86 silverado SWB when he turned 16 and 6 months later it was ready for the junk yard. he's 18 now and on his 4th vehicle. one good thing about him, he knows he is going to tear them up so he doesnt want anything real nice. i've offered him my '80 swb 3 times and his reply is " dad, you've got so much time and money in it, i don't want to be the one who tears it up". he'll grow up soon....i hope. :)

good luck kid and keep up the good work!

Looks good. Whats next a 4x4 frame swap?
My best friends boy is the same way. he crashed his fathers car ( Accent ), we pieced it back together good enough to drive. Then they let him use his mothers old car ( newer Malibu ) when she got a new one he totaled that. Now him and his old man are sharing the first car he crashed, and I caught him doing burnouts with it two days ago. He just turned 17 and will be loosing his license next week for speeding. Most kids now a days have no respect. It doesn't help when the parent just gives them cars either. I told my buddy " you give him a car and pay his insurance, you will regret it. " Now he does.
he has an 86 S10 4x4 thats worth fixing, I gave him some tires and helped him do some work to it, His old man bought him fenders and doors for it, and I made him by all new brakes etc. for it. It is just sitting there untouched. He would rather play video games than work on it.

Sounds to me he's pretty grown by making that statement.  I'd respect him saying that.

I still have the first car, 68 mustang, I ever had.  I have my 2nd (65 mustang convertible GT) as well.  My 79 chevy pickup is about my 4th vehicle and I still drive her regularly.  I still have my 91 suburban as well.  I just don't want to hurt/get rid of anything I have.  I have rebuilt three of my old vehicles (engines, trans, etc..).  I just don't understand people who get different vehicles just to get different ones or abuse what you have.  I think it is because i get too attached to them.  When i was 15, I completely rebuilt everything on the old 68 stang and took pride in it.

Sharp truck, I'm afraid of putting mine on a 4x4 chassis because I'm afraid I'd either excessively baby it, or beat the heck out of it. I actually want a 4x4, but I want it to be somthing thats slightly rough.

I get really attached to my vehicles too...I still have my first car, a '92 nissan maxima that I bought from my uncle, and its still in the same shape as when I got it, more or less. I won't sell that car for 10x its absolute maximum value...I have records of every single thing thats ever been done to the car since it was brand new, also the original window sticker, and I know whos driven it and how its been driven since it was new.

I was going through my file cabinet the other night.  I still have the file I was given when I bought my 1965 mustang convertible GT.  I have every receipt of everything done to it, some dating to 1966.  $8.00 for brake service.  $95 for all tires, man, if only the prices stayed the same. I still have the original dealer's window decal as well. That is my baby.

oh, contrare-----i didn't say i bought them new.  To put it into perspective, my parents hadn't even met when these things came off the assembly line.  As a young teenager in the 80's, i fell in love with these classics---they were old then.
