well im trying to get my truck registered this week. But Im encountering one problem after another. The latest one is that I put the glass in. Now today, a rainy day, I find out that the winshield leaks. It has a new gasket and all >:( Now I need to find the leak and hopefully fit it. Its leaking on the bottom passenger side. On a good note, at least my brand new dash is not in the truck yet, so its not getting ruined.

Did you check the drain holes when the glass was installed? Was a sealer used with the gasket?

drain holes are clear. No sealant with gasket. I didnt think i was supposed to use it. Hopefully Im right, dont want to take out the glass again.

No sealant is correct. Was there any rust in there? Is the new gasket seated ok?

It was rotted out on the passenger side. I replaced it with a solid piece from a donor truck. As far as I know the gasket seated good.
edit, it also seems like the water is coming from between the seal and the glass on the inside.

now, if it seems like its coming from between the seal and glass, will it be ok to use sealant? Ir this is a big no no ???

Are you talking about sealing the glass to the gasket or the gasket to the cab?
If you did a repair there I would suspect that is the cause. Can you manipulate the gasket any possibly seating it better. I have never had to use or chose to use sealer on these trucks.

sealing the glass to the gasket. The repair is on the passenger side, but it leaks on both. More on the pass side. By the way it looks, the water is somehow making its way through the seal and up the other side. I know it sounds weird.

well, by the looks of it, im going to try to seal the glass to the gasket. Im not getting any luckier with this truck. First the ps pump belt hit the water pump (electric pump) then the alternator belt hit the hose, and now this >:( My goal of getting it registered this week is not going to happen. Unless a miracle happens. Thanks for all the help Capt 8)

Honestly, I havent ever heard of a "dry" classic. I fixed mine using a tube of Super Black RTV sealant. Ran a nice little bead where the gasket meets the cab, and smoothed it with a pediatric tongue depressor (the bottom seal can get tight).

If it is leaking around the glass, it probably isn't seated all the way in.

Use Urethane. GM issued a TSB and requires the use of Urethane on all windshields. All Glass companies here are required to use it by law now unless a waiver form is given by the DMV. I know some people here never use it but I always do and never have any leaks. Stop by your local glass company and they can probably pop it out and in in 10 minutes for you for $20 cash or a case of beer.

Thanks for all the help. The gasket im using, is just the standard one, no locking strip. I sealed it up today, hopefully the problem is fixed for now, so I can get it to a glass place, when its on the road 8)
