Title: Factory mechanical sending availibility
Post by: 77c15 on November 06, 2007, 06:04:25 pm
Speaking of mechanical oil pressure sending units, anyone know where you can buy one? I looked through all of our catalogs at AutoZone, searched through all the sending units at Advance, and   doesn't list one. I am lost. My 74 has the brass looking tube from the firewall to the block.

I thought there was no sending unit for the mech oil pressure gauge. Just the metal tube to the back of the gauge itself ???

That's right. There's no sending unit on a mechanical oil pressure indicating system. The oil flows right to the gauge and the gauge is made so it can react to the pressure of the oil.

Sorry for no replying when I split this.  Mechanical oil pressure units don't have a sender as stated above, they plug directly into the block and oil travels to the gauge.  (don't loose the ferels on these, they are GM specific and I haven't found them)

That's what got me: I lost the ferels when I ditched the 307 that was rigged up in the truck when I bought it and must've left them attached to it. I've got some brass connectors rigged up for now, so I guess as long as they don't leak (sealed with teflon tape), then I should be good to go. Thanks, Chris!

If they don't leak you got it made.
