well guys, i'm kinda backing down. after thinking about a lot of different things and realizing that taxes this year won't be as much as last year, i'm gonna go with another 700R4. but not just ANY 700R4. gonna go with the BowtieOverdrives Level 3 700R4. built to take about 630 hp/630 tq. known people who have ran it in the past and they have had NO complaints with it.
BO comes really recommended to me so i think that's who i'm gonna go with. price was a factor, but at the same time i didn't wanna go with anything NEAR stock. gonna get a new HD converter to go with it. can't decide on 1800 or 2200 stall...thinking about the 2200 but thinking the 1800 might be a touch better for offroading.
i looked into going with the NV4500 and just for the "conversion kits" i find (this doesn't include clutch pedals or hydraulics, or a clutch assembly) they are averaging about $2500-3500.
then i looked into the 4L80E, and just for a rebuilt 80E, i'm looking at around $2800-4000. this doesn't include a new TC, or any of the electronics to run it. not to mention, i have to think that with this tax money i also have to install my 350 (with some goodies ) and get my new exhaust ran. oh, and get the truck reinspected...
as for the stuff i'm pulling out...well, i plan on refreshing the 305 with some goodies and i have my eye on an '86-'90 S10 2wd up the road and i wanna learn to rebuild a tranny using the 700R4...at which point i'll most likely sell it. once i make sure it's right, of course

well, if taxes are what i think they will be, i will be going with the "level 3" which has pretty much everything they can do to a 700R4 and it's $1,569. i will be also installing a new torque converter (either 1800 or 2200 stall, don't know yet...probably 1800) which will be about $175. so i'll have it done for just around $2,000...then i'll be spending a little more on stuff to install the 350 and the exhaust...it's gonna be like driving a new truck...i can't wait!

BTO is a very good company. I bought a level 2 K-Case 700R4 from them and I really like it. Keep in mind though there's no reason to get a level 3 unless you're planning on 600 HP, cause that tranny will drive weird behind a stock motor/low stall converter.

What do you have for an engine? You can build a strong 700R4 for less than $500 bucks

well, for now it's just gonna be a mild Jegs 350 (rated at 330 HP), i just tend to go for overkill in most situations...so i wanted a tranny that would handle what i MIGHT throw at it later. not to mention something that would live turning 40"+ tires. but if ya'll think the level 2 is fine, then i can just save that money...
and yea, i know, if you know what you're doing and have the tools it's a LOT cheaper to just build it yourself, but i don't know transmissions, and have never built one. my plan is to get the BTO 700R4 and then in my spare time, tear my 700R4 down and learn to rebuild transmissions on it.
