Over the past couple of months i have tore apart my 305 and have been in search of a bigger small block. a buddy of mine has a friend that he has known for about 10 years that builds motors. So tell me if this is a good deal or not please. He has a 383 stroker roller motor complete with 2.02 heads ready to drop in and all performance parts for $2200.
-
well, if it's all new, and built by someone who knows what they are doing, then i'd say it's worth it. but, how "complete" is "complete"? are you saying, intake/carb, distributor, accessories, everything...or just heads/shortblock...?
-
it is completely complete with intake and carb everything needed to just drop it in and go
-
heck yea man, $2,200 sounds like a good price...i'd jump on it myself...
-
Oh yeah. I paid $2800 for my 4bolt main 383 minus carb. I paid $400 for a new qjet. So, I say it is a good deal. You WILL be happy with a 383, no question.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Rememebr though, if it souns to good to be true...
Fair going price for my neck of the woods for a performance 383 longblock only is $1998. Doesnt include Intake or Carb or any other accessories.
Make sure you ask all the right usual questions...including any kind of warranty if available.
Dont forget your going from a 305 to a 383...hows your tranny and drivetrain?
-
i got a th350 but i plan on dropping it and rebuilding it

I thought we were talking small blocks and decent prices. Yes it is a good deal. Everything but the starter will bolt onto the the 383's 350 block....alt, a/c brackets, fan, pwr steering, etc...It is the simplest swap w/ most increase for the money.
-
the starter should still bolt up. it's still a 350 block.

His original engine is a 305
-
No im completely getting rid of my 305 and going to buy a 383 stroker roller motor complete.
-
OK clarification:
You stated you have a 305 - SGTDEL pointed out you will have to get a 350 starter if you do the swap. That's all that's being said here.

My brother bought his 383 for $2800 less carb. We beat the heck out of it doing street racing and it is still a dang good motor. $2200 is a good deal. 8)

definetly a good deal. I've go 2,400 into mine and paid 180.00 for my q jet. Hope your trans is ready for it. I burned my 700r4 up in a couple of months.
