Has anybody replaced their windshield washer pump?
I just bought a replacement pump from NAPA. This unit is a "universal" fit, and has only two wires for it. One for power and one for the ground. Old pump motor has FOUR and for the wiper motor there are three. There are two wire clips that go into the pump. I connected the white and black wire to the new pump.
I hooked up the new pump, and now it sprays when everything is off, and does not run when wipers are on. What wire needs to be used? Do they all need to be used to complete the circuit of wires? I am obviously no electrician, but do understand a little. I did rewire the truck after I had a little electrical fire once, so I know the basics. All wires have been put back to as OEM.
I have tested the wires with a test light, and of the four wires, three are some sort of power, one being a ground. Of the three wires, one does not come on at all-its the royal blue one.
Of the four wires used for the pump motor,
white w/ black Used for power on new pump motor
black w/ blue Used for ground
yellow w/ black Unused
all blue Unused
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I replaced my wiper motor and it has the washer pump on the same unit..... not universal! original replacement come with washer pump and wiper motor... autozone, o'reily,pep-boys........have them.

So you replaced both wiper and washer motors...? This is a complete assembly. I couldnt find any parts stores that carry factory replacements.
I would go to the local junkyard (pull'n'save) and freeze my tail off, waste some time while removing a used assembly to only return it because it wont work. Thought I would save my self some time by installing a new one, (universal).
I will keep looking...for a stock replacement.

Your universal one will work. Just unplug the OEM wires at the motor for the sprayer and hook them up to your pump. It's pin 4 and 5 connector

Take a test light and push/hold your washer switch while probing the wires. Too easy. Your new pump is fine and you need only 1 power source and 1 ground. I would never again use the pumps that are built into the wiper motor.They always break down.

I made the repair much easier when I took that piece of Universal replacement crap back to NAPA. Got me a stock OEM replacement, complete wiper and washer motors and now the windshield wipers work way better and now I have juice. Thank God, I dont know how long I could have gone, pulling over at every dang gas station to clear the w. shield.
That was after about 30 minutes of looking for the top clamping piece to the wiper arm lever that fell down between the cab and fender...wwwhhheeww! ;)

..Glad you got it figured out..my washer pump doesn't work, but it doesn't matter to me. I clean my windshield twice a year whether it needs it or not. ;D

my washer pump also stopped working, its a delay wiper with separate pump,
one pin on the 2 pin connector for the pump has constant power when the ignition is on,
regardless of what the wipers are doing, is this normal or is the switch busted too?
do i have to pull the steering wheel to replace it?
